#WILLIETHORNE

Tributes were paid to snooker legend Willie Thorne, who has died at 66

@Ladyleeds2 said: “Lovely, soft-spoken gent. Such sad news. We’ve lost another treasure from the sporting world. So sad. RIP Willy.”

@basherdummer added: “Very sad news, IMO he was by far the best commentator until @Bbcsnooker gave him the elbow. It’s an art knowing when to speak and when to let viewers enjoy the game – Willie did it to perfection (unlike some of the current crop!).”

@Ts_curttis tweeted: “Sad to hear this. I remember my father in law seeing him at a recent golf PRO-AM event. He said he was a true gent and a fabulous after dinner speaker with great stories.”

@lej1204 added: “Sad news, thanks for keeping us entertained, one of the characters of the game.”

@rhysthomashello said: “This is so sad. A kind and complicated man, and a true gentleman of the baize. RIP Willie.”

@Fmload said: “One of the main voices that got me loving snooker on TV as a kid.”

@honesttxgooner said: “I loved his commentary, humour, and his snooker escape routes. Snooker won’t be the same.” @maxoleary joked: “Rests in peace.”

#FREDDIEFSLOWERS

A Financial Times journalist wrote of her lockdown hardship, including giving up her spare room so the nanny could move in.

@Carolinevoaden wrote: “Apparently this isn’t satire but it beggars belief. What was the first thing you thought of when lockdown began? I’ll bet not this: ‘Trebling our usual order from the Freddie’s Flowers delivery service was the obvious place to start’.”

@hautepop added: “If you haven’t tripled your Freddie’s Flowers budget, then really, who even are you?”

@Winninp tweeted: “So that’s wot I’ve been doing wrong. Should’ve shoved the nanny in the attic, trebled my order from Freddie’s Flowers, ordered ‘artisinal coffees’ and worn silk pyjamas a la Louise Brooks. But wot to do about one’s #Coronacarbs?”

@zgayle_x tweeted: “Whilst the majority of the working class worry about their jobs... ‘Trebling our usual order from the Freddie’s Flowers delivery service was the obvious place to start’. Different world.”

@Clarebarry wrote: “This is perhaps the worst thing I’ve read in 2020”
