A fine mess

-

use all the money overpaid for the parking that was free to have new benches and plaques made.

Ken Johnston Truly shocking. The council should hang their heads in shame.

Linda Ross Surely they could’ve been donated, relocated...even sold.

Alex Steven Absolutely shameless to destroy these benches that people paid for in memory of their loved ones. This is wanton vandalism by the council, who show no regard for those they are supposed to serve.

Shan Dan

Disgusting. Edinburgh council should be ashamed of themselves. Easy to see none of them belonged to any of their own families.

Pam Blair Rawsthorne

Not very carbon neutral. I’m pretty sure wood is recyclable. Commercial burning of waste should be reported to SEPA.

Stuart Young This is disgusting. These benches cost a fortune to purchase through the council, as well as the emotional cost.

Jacqui Gordon

Motorists wasted more than £100,000 paying for parking in Edinburgh while charges had been suspended because of Covid-19.

Ringgo sent a text message to tell us that parking was suspended. They sent another one saying that parking was back on again as well. So if you missed the texts then maybe you’d pay. Ringgo could’ve suspended payments for all Edinburgh bays. They can do this when a bay is taken out of service for any other reasons. It’s then usual. They are always happy to take the money from anyone who pays it. The refunds process will be long and tortuous and most people will not bother... more free money for the council to waste on free bikes for all, wide pavements and other nonsense we don’t need or want. Not long now till they start on destroying Princes Street Gardens again for their without-planningpermission Xmas tat market.

Jon Clark Will they be reimbursed? Doubt it.

Tom Kerr

What about permit holders? Just renewed mine as told I would have to go through the whole process again and reapply if I didn’t. Typical!

Richard Thomson

Does that mean that all of us who pay yearly will be given refunds?

Mary Kenneway So why were the wardens patrolling in Lothian and Borders?

Angela Brown

Every machine declared the suspension. We saved money during the parking charge suspension.

Amy Hooton

Probably had no idea because there were still parking attendants lurking around!

Sharon Murray They should have shut down the Ringgo website so that people couldn’t pay for parking. Simple as that.

Charles Pretty They should give it to charity.

Iain Duckworth

They are back at it again. I got a fine last Wednesday. No signs, nothing to say the parking charges were brought back and on appeal I get some stock answer response telling me that they communicated the changes in newspapers, radio and their website! Really poor form when they don’t make it clear on the signs themselves that they are back in force.

Kelly Mcmanus

You can’t force people to follow the news. If their ignorance helps to keep my council tax down, then good and well.

Henry Campbell Gillan

It’s the old story! Fewer people now actually read the rules/instructions. “Serves them right!”

Eddie Connor Pay for parking? Never.
