People coming to the UK from France and the Netherlands must quarantine for 14 days from today. Travellers were rushing to get back to the UK before the measure came into force at 4am.
@Uk_gibbon said: “It was made very very clear three weeks ago when Spain was quarantined that any other country could be added at any time. Anybody ‘scrambling’ made their own choice.”
@briansains concurred: “Absolutely totally 100 per cent correct. I was due to go to Cyprus in October but have cancelled due to the uncertainty. If people want to travel anywhere abroad at the moment they must be aware quarantine could happen at any time.”
@chonkypixel observed: “So anyone with the virus can scramble home and avoid that pesky quarantine?”
@Burntoutchevvy posted: “Appears so. And, not only that, but they can cram the various departure areas thus ensuring anyone without the virus maximises the chance of getting it.”
@brain_of_ jfk commented: “This is why the quarantine should start immediately. What’s the point of starting it when everyone will try and beat it by coming back, potentially bringing the virus with them? Kind of pointless really.”
@Maxine8386 said: “I totally agree with you but last time the government did do that over the Spanish holidays people didn’t stop moaning not enough time.”
@mrtom45 posted: “Why are people going aboard in the first place? The virus is still here so if they go it’s their fault, not the government’s. They were warned before they went.”
@smurph1984 replied: “Maybe they wanted to see family. Or are travelling to a safer area than the UK but because the quarantine laws are a joke we ban whole countries instead of areas.”
@Rhydianl92 added: “Surely an early warning defeats the object here The majority of people in these places will have jumped on a plane and headed home.”
