Head of Glasgow-based Murphy Wealth taking up role at MND Scotland

Adrian Murphy, head of Glasgow firm Murphy Wealth, has been appointed to the board of Motor Neuron Disease Scotland.

The charity’s work includes fundraising, research and providing physical, financial, practical and emotional support to those affected by the debilitating and terminal condition.

In his role, Murphy will assist the organisation in achieving its many objectives. He praised the efforts of Doddie Weir in heightening the profile of MND Scotland.

Murphy said: “I am honoured to join the board and I look forward to bringing my energy and enthusiasm to the role.

“This is a cruel progressive disease which has a devastating impact on the daily lives of those suffering and their families. My own brother was diagnosed in 2018 so I have firsthand knowledge of the havoc and pain it causes.

“I am also a huge fan of Doddie Weir, who has done a sterling job of heightening the profile of MND, despite coping with his own condition.

“The more publicity the disease gets, the more chance of raising funds for research into a cure, plus it helps the public to understand motor neuron disease. It’s not a name or illness which was familiar to many a few years ago.

“As well as raising funds for research, the non-profitable charity MND Scotland does a fantastic job to help sufferers, whether that is providing equipment, therapy, counselling, advice, grants, communication devices, holiday facilities, physiotherapy or just being a shoulder to cry on.”

Murphy, who was appointed yesterday, took over the reins of wealth management advisory firm Murphy Wealth in 2016 from his father Brian, who set up the company more than 40 years ago and is now its chairman.
