Naming rights or not, it’s still Rugby Park
The era of stadium naming rights has regularly offended the sensibilities of Scottish football’s traditionalists in recent years.
From the Tony Macaroni Arena to the Fountain of Youth Stadium, which most of us still refer to as Almondvale and New Douglas Park in normal discourse, the introduction of corporate monickers has often sounded a jarring note.
It may have escaped your attention but the latest addition to the list is Rugby Park, Kilmarnock’s home for 121 years and one of the most recognisable names on the Scottish football landscape. As of this season, its official title is the BBSP Stadium after club owner Billy Bowie, pictured, took up the naming rights through his Special Projects business as part of his ongoing investment in Killie. Bowie’s largesse towards the club he loves has earned that right. But he knows as well as anyone it will always be Rugby Park.
