Ventilators and face shields win crisis awards
Awards have been announced for a number of engineering achievements to help tackle the virus crisis, including the production of ventilators, face shields and breathing aids.
The Royal Academy of Engineering has made awards to 19 individuals and teams of engineers, including those based at universities such as Cambridge, Oxford, London, Plymouth, Southampton and Leeds.
Winners include Dr Antony Robotham, from the University of Plymouth, who designed an environmentally friendly face shield, a team at Southampton University for developing a respirator for healthcare workers, and Babcock International Group for the rapid development and manufacture of a new medical ventilator product.
