UAE and Israel open phone line
Telephone service between the United Arab Emirates and Israel began working yesterday as the two countries opened diplomatic ties as part of a peace deal brokered by the US.
Israeli communications minister Yoaz Handel issued a statement “congratulating the United Arab Emirates on removing the blocks,” adding: “Many economic opportunities will open now. These trust-building steps are important toward advancing states’ interests.”
Israeli news websites previously blocked by UAE authorities, like the Times of Israel, could also be freely accessed in the Emirates.
