Covid ‘stream’
Top Scottish Government coronavirus adviser Professor Devi Sridhar has warned that Scotland is “facing a stream of infection from England and Wales”.
Professor Devi Sridhar just cannot stay out of the news. I wonder how she manages it>
Vides Soracte Those in academia like their overblown job titles just as much as the ‘Ministers’ at Holyrood.
Old Man of Hoy And yet there is no difference from somebody coming from Glasgow infecting those of us in Edinburgh as there is of someone coming from, say, York infecting us in Edinburgh. Just two different cities on the one island.
kmcn These advisers are in situ because they are adherents of the Sturgeon political mantra. The public really have to wise up. This is a snapshot of what an independent Scotland shall become. Sinecure appointments and nepotism the order of the day.
Charles Gordon I tested positive for Covid-19 twelve days ago. This was not imported from England, but was the result of irresponsible Scots crowding into bars, as instructed to do by Nicola Sturgeon, then spreading the virus elsewhere.
Bill Carson
She’s certainly pandering to the prejudices of many in the Scottish Government.
Francis Ferguson
Whilst the recent outbreaks in Grampian are not likely from tourism we cannot discount the numbers of tourists that come to Edinburgh etc importing infections; we should be mindful of this and treat it as another reason to maintain caution, wear face coverings and maintain social distancing.
Clair Melville Technically probably true but not a helpful statement considering the fact we live on the same island!
Carlo Capaldi Oh, for goodness’ sake, folk will take this like dip and gravy. All regions, areas, towns are liable to infection from internal and external sources unless the great unwashed behave and maintain distancing. But don’t let that get in the way of populist warcry.
Brian Shaw
I am sure they know. Unfortunately closing down the border has become a political issue by agendadriven parties. It’s ridiculous.
Marie-claire Rackham-mann
Think the blame-game is a dangerous one to play. Not surprising, though. My only surprise is that they are not blaming Westminster for transmission in Scotland.
John Laidlaw
I think Scotland should isolate itself from the rest of the UK. The EU, well, that’s a different matter.
Ross Donaldson
Anyone else find it concerning that one of the top Scottish Government advisers seemingly doesn’t understand the transmission of a virus – or maybe isn’t up-to-date on Aberdeen and Orkney and every other case or cluster of Covid-19? Why don’t we just close all entry into Scotland and build a dome around Scotland!
Catriona Young
A dome sealed off from the outside world and let them live in their own little fantasy world. Take care.
Alex Pajewski Where’s her evidence? Looking far more like a political soundbite for the SNP.
Carline Currie Do these idiots at the SNP know they are driving a bigger divide between Scotland and England plus making this worse for us Scottish people down here in England? Time they shut up and stop being utterly vile towards the people down here.
George Reid
Stop tourism. That’ll be great for the economy.
Paul Holbrook
Scotland 2,490; England 41,940. Rate in England nearly double Scotland.
Grant Duguid
Population England 60 million. Population Scotland 5 million.
Isobel Mungall Strangely quiet about our almost non-existent testing regime. Low numbers are great but pretty much a given when you hardly test anyone.
Mike Scales Perhaps if the Scottish Government had handled the first cases from the Nike conference better we would have reduced numbers impacted. That was not England’s fault.
Graeme Ross
The outbreak in Orkney was caused by a fishing boat from the mainland in Aberdeenshire – is that the fault of England too? Typical grievance manufacturing so the government isn’t held accountable for their incompetence.
Campbell Buckeridge
Let me see – on one hand I have a bunch who assume Heaven knows what and on another hand I have a valid, logical warning made by a professor in epidemiology (Professor Devi Sridhar). Hard to choose who to listen to? Not!
