Halep opts to skip US Open

Wimbledon champion Simona Halep will skip the US Open – which starts on 31 August – preferring to stay in Europe amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Halep, the world No 2, won a title in Prague on Sunday but said yesterday: “After weighing up all the factors involved and with the exceptional circumstances in which we are living, I have decided I will not travel to New York.”
