Lothian Buses have raised concerns about some of Edinburgh city council’s Covid crisis road changes after it emerged that narrowing of the carriageway on a key route will leave buses and HGVS with less than five inches space on either side.

Well done clowncil! You’ve done it again. Using this virus as an excuse to mess around with roads, causing a lot of confusion and disruption. Seems to be all they’re good for these days.

Michelle Brown

CEC have used Covid as an excuse to get away with murder on the roads. It’s time a more traffic-friendly council was put in place.

Stu Simpson

Councillors set policy, but do so with advice from their traffic engineers, who are responsible for the design of the necessary works.

Alastair Moir

Stupid. This puts pedestrians and cyclists at greater risk, not less, more pollution and congestion. Next local elections I will be voting for someone else. This council has simply ignored the residents of Edinburgh on every subject

Diarmid Martin

The council shut Braid Road to enable a safe route for cyclists and pedestrians. Why the hell do they also have to disrupt traffic on a parallel road by introducing these cycling lanes?

Ronnie Wood

The council won’t be happy until only trams and cyclists can use the roads.

Lucien Romano

Wait until all the big stores move out or close. What will the council do once they lose all the extortionate rates and rents? I can see this happening, and rents and rates will be less than half on the outskirts of the city than the city centre. There is no need for all this pavement Your comments on some of the most popular stories of the day taken from The Scotsman website and Facebook page widening, when its been abolished everywhere else.

Graham Gray What they’ve done at the Mound is already dangerous to cyclists, road users and pedestrians. They’ve narrowed the road at the tight turns and any buses or long vehicles have to give way to each other and get really close to these cycle lanes/ pavement in order to make the turn.

Billy Lui There is no way this will work. It’s the same the full length of Morningside Road. Unless they are going to take away all the bus stops – nothing would surprise me.

Pauline Downie

Can someone please explain how closing roads stops the spread of Covid? I’m intrigued to hear this.

Gary Cleghorn Like it or not, any councillor has to accept buses are a vital part of city transport and should be given priority. Put simply, it’s not a war between different transport systems. It should be something designed to co-exist, not to allow half witted clowns to try to create an impossible ideal.

Hunter Bruce

Makes about as much sense as these clowns driving around alone with a mask on.

David Ross

Edinburgh Clowncil strikes again! These people need to be booted off ASAP. I’ve had enough of their hidden agendas.

Donata Du Had to happen. The clowncil will want buses off the roads next.

Graeme Gifford

Cancel the cycle path. More people use the buses.

Aileen Rutherford

What about pulling over for emergency services?

Lorraine Wilkie

It’s time to march against the council.
