- By NOA HOFFMAN

A voucher scheme where people can “spend £5 to get £10” at Leith Walk businesses in Edinburgh will launch on Monday.

Shoppers and diners will be offered vouchers worth £10 for the price of £5 to spend in a range of more than 70 bars, restaurants, cafes and shops.

Edinburgh City Council has teamed up with website itison to deliver the scheme, which will form part of the local authority’s £2.4 million Support for Business programme.

From Monday anyone can visit itison.com to purchase vouchers and the scheme will last until 31 August.

A similar voucher scheme for Constitution Street in Leith is being planned for launch next month.

Transport and environment vice-convener Councillor Karen Doran said: “We’re excited to be launching this phase of the itison voucher scheme, which will give an added incentive to visit the range of independent shops, cafes, bars and restaurants on offer in the area.”

She added: “We want to do everything we can to help them to continue to operate, and flourish, over the years to come.”
