Murrayfield will be venue for semi-final
The SRU has confirmed that Edinburgh’s Guinness Pro14 semi-final against Ulster will take place at BT Murrayfield on Saturday 5 September, subject to all relevant Covid-19 travel restrictions in place at the time of the fixture.
Richard Cockerill’s side clinched their historic spot with a 30-15 win over Glasgow in Saturday’s 1872 Cup clash and Leinster’s win over Munster means they have won Conference B.
Munster could, technically, finish level on 51 points after next weekend but it would then go to number of wins in the regular season and they trail the Scots 11-9 on that score.
Unbeaten Leinster will host the other semi-final, most likely a rematch against Munster, though Scarlets could qualify if they beat Dragons and Munster lose to Connacht in the last round of games.
After Saturday’s win, Cockerill said: “I don’t know what the stats are, but I reckon if you’re at home you win the most. I’m not sure there will be a partisan crowd but home comforts are always good, we’ve got a good record here and if we’ve earned the right to a have a home semi I hope we can play at Murrayfield.”
Around 700 fans are expected as an experimental pilot in Friday’s match against Glasgow.
