Panic mode
Judging from Susan Dalgety’s article and letters in The Scotsman on Saturday, those opposed to self-government are in panic mode.
Confusingly, Alan Sutherland uses the flawed Westminster first-past-the-post system as some sort of argument against the more democratic Scottish Parliament electoral system and forgets that Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour Party refused to co-operate or back an SNP motion to extend the Brexit negotiation period until the Covid pandemic has subsided.
Contrary to Roger Cartwright’s view (same day), only those adults who live and regful istered to pay tax in Scotland should vote in a Scottish referendum. Also, given the amount of “dirty money” funnelled to the European Union Leave campaign, only individuals who are registered to pay Scottish income tax should be allowed to make donations to either side with a ban on corporate, business, trade union, trusts and association funding.
This would go some way to assuage the huge publicity advantage the No side has when London broadcasters who are hostile to independence dominate our TV political and current affairs programmes and the bulk of the popular press owned outside Scotland is opposed to our self-determination.
