- By RUSSELL JACKSON

This year’s Scottish Short Film Festival is to be held online, with viewers able to watch 25 selected films from the comfort of their own home.

Now in its eighth year, the film festival, which is usually based in Glasgow, has a wide range of films and genres in the line-up, including the The Last Mermaid, starring S cots comic Janey Godley.

In the film, Godley stars as Pearl, a middle-aged mermaid, who reluctantly embarks on a series of blind dates to save her species from extinction.

The variety of films also include a Gaelic-speaking film made in Nova Scotia, documentaries focusing on current and past experiences in Scotland and work by other leading independent Scottish writers and directors.

G in aV erek er, Festival Director, said: “With the onset of the global pandemic, we were lucky that we had the option togo online as many creative events have had no choice but to cancel. Changing the viewing process to an online experience has upped our technical skills a few levels but we have enjoyed having the option to showcase these wonderful short films.”

The festival will be held online from 6 September.
