Trump in complaint to party on ‘rigged’ vote

- By ANGUS HOWARTH

US president Donald Trump has wa rn edf ellow party members that opponents could“steal” the forthcoming election in November.

Speaking to Republicans on the first day of his party’ s convention, he told them that the Democrats may attempt to rig the vote.

He told delegates “they’re using Covid to defraud the American people” and again made claims that mail-in ballots would result in massive fraud.

“The only way they can take this election away from us is if this is a rigged election,“he told his sup - porters.

Experts and voting officials have moved to dismiss the claim that the integrity of the election result is under threat due to mail-in voting and have pointed to the fact that Mr Trump uses the system regularly.

Mr Trump’s allegations come following rev el ations he is trailing in some cases by up to ten points in the polls to the Democrat presidential nominee in November’s election, Joe Biden.
