Lawlor ‘honoured’ to be playing in ISPS Handa UK Championship
Ireland’ s Brendan L awl or, who is one of the world’s top disabled golfers, will make his European Tour debut in the IS PS Hand a UK Championship at The Belfry this week.
Lawlor turned professional in September last year, shortly after winning the Europea nD is a bled Golf Association( ED GA) Scottish Open, which was played over the same course at the Re na issance Club used for the ASI Scottish Open.
The 22- year-old, who is currently fourth in the World Rankings for Golfers with Disability, ha sara recondition called Ellis-van Creveld syndrome, a disability characterised by a shorter stature and shorter limbs.
“I am really looking forward to making my European Tour debut at the ISPS Handa UK Championship and competing alongside some of the best players in the world,” said Lawlor, who is sponsored by the tournament’s title partner.
“To have the opportunity to represent disability golfers across the world is a fantastic honour and I hope to have a solid few rounds to showcase that disability golfers are talented in their own right.

● The first round of stroke play qualifying at the Amateur Championship and the Women’s Amateur Championship was abandoned yesterday.
The start of play was delayed by two hours in the morning due to inclement weather.
Following a second suspension of play in the afternoon at both courses, Royal Birkdale for the men and West Lancashire for the women, the decision was made to cancel the first round and all scores from the day.
A cut in both championships will now be made after one round of stroke play qualifying to be played today.
The top 64 players and ties will go through to the match play stage of the Amateur Championship. The top 64 players will also progress to match play at the Women’s Amateur Championship.
