Happy at Hibs /Boyle delighted as he signs new two-year deal at Easter Road
Martin Boyle has put pen to paper on a new deal with Hibs, after weeks of speculation about the winger’s future, writes Patrick Mcpartlin.
The 27-year-old’s current contract expires next summer and he was linked with a number of English Championship clubs including Huddersfield Town and Stoke City earlier this summer.
However Boyle, who could have let his contract run down and left for free at the end of the current campaign, has agreed a new two-year deal with the Easter Road side ahead of the Scottish Premiership match against Aberdeen on Sunday, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2023.
Speaking to Hibs’ website, Boyle said: “I’m really pleased to have signed the new contract and it’s no secret what the club means to me and my family.
“It was only yesterday that my wife Rachael signed her own deal with Hibernian Women and it was an easy decision for the pair of us to make.
“I was in the away dressing room at Easter Road earlier for some photography. The last time I was in there was ten years ago as a Montrose player. It’s been some jour
ney since, and I still think my best years are ahead of me.”
Revealing that he had spoken to chairman Ron Gordon and chief executive Leeann Dempster as well as head coach Jack Ross and sporting director Graeme Mathie, Boyle continued: “I had some really positive conversations and it should
be obvious how much we’re all enjoying our football just now. The results probably speak for themselves.
“We’ve given ourselves something to build on for the rest of the season and I’d love to add a few more highs to the ones I’ve already enjoyed.”
Ross added: “I’ve said often enough how much I value
Martin’s contribution to the team, but I think that extends to the whole club.
“He’s a larger than life character. It’s easy to dismiss that as a laugh and a joke but it’s the kind of thing that can pull others along when the going gets tough.
“Martin also works incredibly hard on his game and that shouldn’t be over
looked. He’s matured into a player of real quality.”
The former Dundee forward has been with Hibs since January 2015; initially joining on loan before signing a permanent contract ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.
He has scored 36 goals and registered 36 assists in 193 games in green and white.
