Cleaning up act

-

Plans to ban the worstpolluting vehicles from the Capital have been rescheduled to come into force with the introduction of a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) between February and May 2022.

Perhaps a tax could be introduced based on the weight of the car. That would then raise cash to help repair the damage these heavier cars are causing to our roads. The council doesn’t create potholes, traffic does.

Henry Campbell Gillan So it just kills the areas within the LEZS. There’s less and less reason to head into Edinburgh anyway. Just continuing the slow death as offices and shops in the centre.

David Sandilands Maybe if Edinburgh Council would stop closing roads and stop taking away perfectly good roundabouts – like the utter shambles that is now at the bottom of Easter Road – we could all get home a lot quicker and be able to turn our cars off and reduce C02 levels.

Paul Cuthbert Never mind the worst polluting vehicles, get rid of the worst polluting councillors.

Andrew Davidson It’s a good idea, I like it. However, CEC are in danger of losing a lot of shops as car drivers opt for out of town retail parks.

Dee Cunningham Can’t wait to see the council’s list of acceptable/ unacceptable vehicles.

Kenny Dickson

Cue the moronic, “I can drive what I want because I pay my road tax” statements. Or “what about those pesky cyclists?” statements.

Graham Napier No wonder all these old cars are falling to bits with the state of the city’s roads. I wonder if Edinburgh Council have a log on how many times these streets have been dug up and filled in over the years. I think the public would get a fright, as it’s they who are paying for it.

Jamie Gordon To intentionally create congestion, then say we need to remove pollution by stealth taxes is creating the situation then profiteering from the result.

Nick Crawley

That’s about the only transport move that makes any sense in this city.

Calder Gilchrist

Try fixing the potholes.

Gordon Montgomery

The 20mph zones were imposed to raise pollution levels for this reason and to introduce the congestion charge into the city.
