KIA SORENTO PHEV UNVEILED

-

Kia has revealed its new flagship plug-in hybrid in the form of the Sorento PHEV.

Set to join mild hybrid and diesel models in the all-new Sorento line-up, the PHEV is the lowest-emitting but most powerful model in the range.

Using a turbo charged 1.6-litre petrol engine mated to a 70kw electric motor, the hybrid system produces 261bhp and 258lb ft. All PHEV models will feature a six-speed automatic transmission driving all four wheels.

Kia has not released official range figures for the S orento PHEV yet but says the 13.8kwh battery should allow owners to complete “most short drives” on electric power alone. For comparison, the slightly larger Volvo XC90 will manage up to 24 miles from its smaller 11.6kwh battery.

Kia says emissions and economy details will also be confirmed closer to the car’s launch.

Apart from badges identifying it as a hybrid, the PHEV looks just like the rest of the range. As with other models, it will be available in five-seat and seven-seat configurations and, although the batter y does affect boot space, Kia claims it will still offer some of the largest cargo capacity in the segment with up to 898 litres in five-seat mode.

All models will come with a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, connected services and a suite of advances driver assistance systems.

Sales will begin in early 2021, with pricing confirmed nearer the time.
