Losing the plot

-

Parents have been told to only take their children out of education if they are experiencing the three main Covid-19 symptoms in updated advice from the Scottish Government. Classic cold symptoms such as a sore throat or a runny nose are not considered symptoms of coronavirus.

If you feel your child needs Calpol to get through or they just seem unwell, don’t send them to school. If they have a runny nose and seem fine then send them. It’s not rocket science, just common sense as a parent.

Someone needs to tell the headteachers this as they are sending kids home if they so much as sneeze.

What is going to happen in the winter months when most kids have viruses, temperatures, common colds, sore throats etc? Everyone is going to be paranoid thinking that it’s Covid. Seriously, everyone is losing the plot – the scaremongering and daily updates are frightening people. We need to remember that 99.9 per cent of people get over it, and especially children.

Elle Morrison

If parents feel that anxious, don’t send your kids to school but don’t criticise parents who are sending their kids to school.

James Melvin

I’d rather people kept their ill kids off school regardless of what it is.

We have all fallen ill with a heavy cold and mine were all kept off. I was not impressed at being told my youngest (aged nine) was not allowed back until we had both had a Covid test. She had no Covid symptoms. Complete waste of resources and time!

It’s like freshers’ flu at university and happens every year. The kids are mingling again so their germs spread and colds are particularly common in the first couple of weeks. We can’t keep children off school for colds. Terri Hand

A child, especially a small child, should not be subjected to a test if they aren’t displaying the main three symptoms to simply tick a box in some school’s checklist. My son goes to nursery and I don’t think they can go a full month without catching something or other. If you were to constantly keep them off they’d never be there and have zero immune system.

When I was a child snot of purest green was practically compulsory.

If you or a child catches Covid and has symptoms you’ll know it’s Covid straight away.
