Glenmorangie special tin tells a tale tale of giraffes in need of our protection
New launch continues brand’s global conservation partnership to help save the endangered animal
This year the Highland distillery announced it had entered into a three-year partnership to help save giraffes by teaming up with the Giraffe Conservation Foundation and the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland.
This partnership has come about thanks to the distillery’s stills, which are the same height as an adult male giraffe. To further promote the conservation work, Glenmorangie is set to release a special edition gift tin. Coloured Glenmorangie’s hallmark orange, each features a giraffe-print pattern, cut out on the front, through which the bottle can be seen. On the back, a giraffe stands head to head with one of Glenmorangie’s towering stills. Gift givers can pick between one of three whiskies – Glenmorangie Original, Glenmorangie Lasanta, a spicy and rich 12-year-old whisky finished in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks or Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, a bold 14-year-old whisky finished in ruby port casks.
Glenmorangie’s efforts to aid the giraffe highlight the animal’s plight.
Numbers have fallen by 30 per cent in 30 years, with some types now critically endangered. And while the giraffe’s silhouette is known and loved across the world, few are aware of the threat it faces in the wild. To help the giraffe, Glenmorangie has begun a three-year partnership with the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) to raise awareness and support the charity’s conservation work in Africa.
Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s Director of Whisky Creation, said: “It is thanks to our giraffe-like stills, the tallest in Scotland, that we cre - ate the delicate, fruity spirit behind all our delicious single malts. I hope whisky lovers will enjoy exploring one of our single malts this festive season with our giraffe gift edition – and perhaps join us in raising a glass to our spirit animal’s future.”
Thomas Moradpour, President and Chief Executive of Glenmorangie, added: “For 175 years we have created whisky, in stills as high as an adult giraffe. This majestic animal has become a beloved symbol our brand. It seems only right we channel our passion for this animal into our new global conservation partnership with GCF and RZSS. Together, we will work to protect giraffes in the wild and shine a light on their predicament before it’s too late.”
