UK businesses facing net security timebomb

- By SCOTT REID

Half of companies do not have adequate cybersecurity pro - vision to allow for full remote working, leaving the UK facing a “ticking timebomb” during Covid-19, according to a new report.

And while 58 percent of tech hiring managers list infosecurity as their most required skillset right now – just 10 per cent of tech professionals in the UK possess the right skills to help plug the gap.

The findings come from a study by global recruiter Robert Walters and data provider Vacancysoft, which highlights how the problem is on a European level, with 70 per cent of companies stating that they do not have a sufficient cybersecurity team and are having to deal with a talent shortage of 140,000 across the continent.

James Chap lin, boss of Vacancysoft, said: “The rapid pace of digital transformation bought on by Covid-19 led to a surge in recruitment. As a result, cybersecurity is becoming an ever-greater part of the technology function.”
