More t ha n s i x mil l i o n meals were cl ai med i n Scotland last month under the chancellor’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme, it has emerged.

Treasur y figures show a total of 6,333,000 meals were claimed for across Scotland under the scheme – equating to more than one per person for the 5.5 million people living north of the Border.

T h e t o t a l a m o u n t claimed in discounts was £ 38,607,000 – an average of £ 6.10 saved per meal -– across 8,543 outlets which were signed up to use the scheme.

It’s thought the true figure will be higher as businesses have until the end of September to lodge claims.

Scottish Secretary Alister Jack said: “The UK government’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme has been a roaring success, helping protect 1.8 million jobs in the hospitality sector.”
