I am puzzled by the opening paragraph of your article ( 4 September) stating: “An artificial­ly straighten­ed tributary of the River Dee will become a ‘ meandering’ haven for wildlife...” The OED defines “meandering” as “following a winding course” which surely cannot apply to a “straighten­ed” feature.
