Quarantine woe
Having returned on 6 September from Vienna I find myself quarantined for 14 days due to the incompetence of the Scottish and UK governments. It seems I cannot be tested as a matter of course on returning from a risk country, which could free me from quarantine and allow me to get on with my life.
The contrast with Austria and other European countries is stark and shaming. I have already had a negative test in Austria and citizens of that country returning there from, say, Croatia were able to get a test immediately at no cost to themselves. The track and trace system in Austria is remarkably efficient and effective and has been for some time so that restrictions on daily life are being kept to a necessary minimum.
Yet here we are in Britain, seven months into the crisis, and we’re still struggling along behind so many other European countries. Why? Is it the SNP’S and UK government’s stubbornness to do things differently (usually worse), stupidity, sheer incompetence or a combination of all three?
