Suffragette slur

-

To compare Extinction Rebellion (XR) activities and demonstrations with that of the Suffragette movement or hunger marchers, as Diane Abbot did (Scotsman, 7 September), is beyond offensive.

The hooray Henrys and Henriettas of XR will have gone home after their latest demo, many no doubt picked up by mummy in the Range Rover, and wait for orders for the next newspaper distribution centre that XR do not like to be blocked or hospital entr y to be closed.

The Suffragettes and the hunger marchers were real people. People who believed in their cause to the extent they would throw themselves in front of the king’s horse at the Derby. Many of the hunger marchers were miners who had worked in the most horrific, life-shortening conditions.

One hour down a mine would have stopped these XR warriors in one fell swoop. Rather than convince people of their case, they turn them off. Why do they not start an XR or for that matter BLM party?
