Contempt for law

-

The Tories have admitted that their rewriting of the with - drawal agreement breaches international law (Scotsman, 9 September). This has been done on the orders of Boris Johnson’s Rasputin; Dominic Cummings.

Cummings boasted on his personal blog that the withdrawal agreement would be rewritten. He said this was irrespective of what the law officers said. Cummings was giving two fingers to international law.

This kind of thuggish criminality is Trump ian. It is a repeat of the Trump’s ripping up the Iran nuclear deal. That turned Trump into a despised pariah.

Dominic Cummings used underhand semi-legal tactics to win the EU referendum. He then refused to appear before parliament to answer questions on it. He was found in contempt of parliament but was given no punishment.

This contempt for the law then seeped into Boris Johnson’s administration. Cummings is now trying to abolish the Electoral Commission as they are an impediment to Tory gerrymandering.

Johnson was found to have illegally prorogued par li amen tin order to bypass scrutiny of his Brexit plans. Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick discussed a planning application at a fundraising dinner with a billionaire Tory donor.

The Tories have set an example that laws which are inconvenient can simply be ignored. Nicola Sturgeon should bear this in mind when calling the next indp end ence refer endum. The unionist crowing about legality has been permanently discredited.
