War memories

-

I was delighted to read your article about radar pioneer Robert Watson Watt( Scotsman ,15 September ). As a “Brechiner” myself, born in 1942 (my father was minister of Maison Dieu Church for a good number of years) I am proud of his association with our town.

I still have memories of being in my pram in the garden and being terrified by the sound of aeroplanes overhead – at that time there was a nearby airfield at Edzell.

I remember my mother telling me that wardens knocked on the manse door on the night that I was born. In all the excitement of the day, my parents had forgotten about the blackout!
