Lockdown threat

-

Edinburgh and the Lothians remain “under review” over whether further Covid restrictions will be imposed. Nicola Sturgeon said health officials had considered whether to recommend that Lothian should be subjected to the same clampdown as a large area of the west of Scotland, where people are banned from visiting each other’s homes.

Sweden has come in for criticism, yet they have found a way of managing it, potentially for the long term, without totally destroying their economy or putting their population into a perpetual state of fear. Flicking a big switch off and on constantly is total madness.

Scott Reid Get everybody back to work, just protect the most vulnerable. Stop indoor and outdoor mass gathering.

Brian Connah What are they going to do, put us in lockdown every few months? How long are they expecting to do this for?

Ellie May

Get everyone back to work, keep schools open as education is important. People just need to stop gathering in large numbers, and follow the hygiene rules and social distancing etc, as I think we need to learn to live with this virus.

Laura Mcmurdo

Edinburgh and Lothians covers a big area - I would be interested to learn the breakdown of population in each council area and the number of positive tests in each, then the number of hospitalisations.

Lilian Mackay

If only people would follow the rules when coming back from other countries and stop being so selfish.

Norma Elliot

Lockdowns clearly don’t work. We would not be in this position if they did. Why the scientists think we can control a virus is mental in itself. Let’s get the old normal going again.

Kris Aitchison Lockdown did work, the numbers were getting low. As soon as we opened up and not everyone was abiding by the rules the virus started to spread again. People having barbecues and house parties, not bothering to distance. People who tested positive still going out to pubs etc. People refusing to wear masks. Thailand with a population of 69 million had 58 deaths because they locked down right at the beginning including shutting off their airports and everyone wore masks.

Jeanie Corstorphine

Nobody listened during the original lockdown, Nicola – beaches and parks etc were full. What’s the difference this time? This whole sorry mess has been mishandled.

Tom Kerr

People at most risk need to be kept safe, shielded and given I would like to say thank you to everyone who attended illegal raves, the mass of insanity who gathered at the beaches and parks for a bevy and a barney, and those attending overcrowded house parties. So if restrictions do come in, congratulations on mucking it up for everyone else

Keith Gosman

How can she monitor the coronavirus cases if there are no more tests available? I’ve been trying to get a test for my daughter for the past two days and been told there are no more available for the next few weeks!

Louise Ramsay

October soon, furlough ends. She can’t afford a lockdown.

Michael Stimson

Pity she wasn’t that concerned when she allowed thousands of people to gather and attend protests in the capital during lockdown.
