Celtic wait to learn Europa opponents after tie halted

-

Celtic must wait to learn their Europa League opponents after the second qualifying round game between Latvian side Riga and Tre Fiori of San Marino was abandoned.

The Scottish champions are due to meet the winners of that tie in the third qualifying round next Thursday. The game in Riga was called off when strong winds raised concerns about the safety of the stadium.

Riga want to reschedule the game for today but Tre Fiori have chartered a flight back to San Marino. The Latvian side may now have to forfeit the tie.

Uef as aid in a statement: “Due to strong winds, the match was halted in the eighth minute to protect the safety of all persons involved in the game. Further communication on the matter will be made in due course.”
