# FIREWORKS

London’s New Year’s

Eve fireworks have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. About 100,000 people normally pack the streets around Victoria Embankment for the annual event.

@ Ksingh_ 1469 said: “Can’t we have a socially distanced event? We aren’t allowed to have even a glimmer of joy any more. It’s like they are trying to destroy any morale we may have left.”

@ o_ pebbles asked: “What would you rather have, joy or your relatives dead?”

@ clupidbloropope commented: “But Covid- 19 is meant end at 12am on the 1st January next year.”

@ beaglebugle posted: “Johnson said on telly that it would all be over by Christmas. He also said track and trace would be in place by June 1 and he had an oven- ready EU deal.”

@ clarkey85steve said: “Considering it’s the same thing every year can’t they just show a repeat of last year’s one. Most the stuff on over the festive period is usually a repeat anyway. It’s just fireworks going off in a circle to Katy Perry’s Firework for 15 minutes.”

@ Timoroola added: “Isn’t the point of sky high rockets of colour is that they can be enjoyed remotely? Keep the fireworks , lose the attendees?”

# KIDSADS

Tech firms have been urged to stop advertising to under18s in an open letter signed by MPS, academics and children’s- rights advocates. @ Ecrustius said: “First we abandon our parenting duties to teachers. Now parents are asking tech companies ( often led by adults barely older than children) to set boundaries for their offspring. Something is definitely wrong here people!”

@ chintu178 posted: “Young people are susceptible and protecting their privacy and exposure is a must. Kudos to the people including law makers who are pushing for this. Let’s make this world a little less worse in such horrifying times.”

@ Dolphinrg commented: “When our children were young in the 70s/ 80s, they were told if they saw a toy advertised on TV they weren’t having it.”
