Woman hit by car on Arran dies

A 78-year-old woman has died after she was hit by a car on an island road.

The woman was on Mid Mayish Road in Brodick on the Isle of Arran when she was hit by a red Citroen at about 3.50pm on Saturday.

Emergency services attended and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are appealing for informatio­n about the incident.

Sergeant Stewart Taylor, of the road policing unit, said: “Inquiries into the circumstan­ces are ongoing and we are encouragin­g anyone with any informatio­n to get in contact with officers.

“There were a number of passers-by at the time and we are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact police. If you were in the area or have any potential dashcam or CCTV footage get in touch.”

Police said that a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
