BROADY PROGRESSES IN FRENCH QUALIFIERS

Liam Broady has reached the second qualifying round at the French Open after beating Spain’s Nicola Kuhn in straight sets.

The British No 6 won 6-4, 7-6 (4) at Roland Garros in one hour and 48 minutes and will now play Holland’s Botic van de Zandschulp tomorrow.

British No 5 Jay Clarke, 22 , lost his first-round match on the opening day of qualifying 6-1, 6-4 against Argentinia­n Facundo Bagnis.

Meanwhile, Roland Garros organisers have confirmed a female player has tested positive for Covid-19 and has withdrawn from the women’s singles qualifying draw which starts today.

Five unnamed players withdrew from qualificat­ion on Sunday after two players and one coach tested positive after 900 tests were carried out last week .
