Good Lord! The Battle of Britain 80th anniversary revealed that an Air Vice Marshal is Chaplain in Chief( Near er, My God, to Thee perhaps ), the same rank held when, in 1980, the RAF had three times as many personnel. He is paid £100,000, more than the Archbishop of Canterbury. Starting at £49,000, the combined pay of nearly 250 Armed Forces chaplains is £12 million annually. The moral component of fighting power, not just a matter for chaplains, comes dear.
