Festive lockdown?
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said she can’t guarantee Scotland will see a return to normality by Christmas.
Think we will lock her and her government down for the festive period, this will allow the rest of our families to celebrate Christmas – while taking precautions, of course.
Chick Macdonald
Some of us still waiting to get back to work and no longer being furloughed. Christmas is the last thing on my mind.
Ann Waddell
There may be restrictions but it’s hardly going to be the end of days. My parents went through six years of World War II – rationing, the blackout and bombing. Lots of bombing. Those were Christmases like no others.
Barbara Suttar
Unfortunately, just getting on with it with a stiff upper lip like ‘during the war’ won’t help in this situation, especially when people cannot do the basics.
Andrew Pete
People always find a way to enjoy themselves.
Arthur Conboy
My thoughts go to the many, many families that have lost someone to Covid. Not seeing family over Christmas is awful but not seeing them ever again must be utterly devastating
Mandy Milne
So what if we’re in lockdown, just wait and celebrate with your family once things are better. It’s not as if most people are celebrating the real reason for Christmas so it shouldn’t matter which date you celebrate it on.
Audrey Dryburgh
The virus does not recognise dates in the calendar. We need to manage our own expectations of the future and take responsibility for our own actions and how they affect others. As a member of the generation that has been exceedingly lucky not having a war or any major concerns, surely it’s not beyond us to pull together and be safe.
Fiona Savage We could all have the best Christmas present Santa could bring and that would be no Christmas Market, which in turn will probably see the end of Underbelly. Come on Santa.
David Black Just have to set a couple of extra places for Xmas dinner for the police.
Andrew Greig Christmas in the house with the kids is fine – movies on, heating on, big dinner. Better than with the in-laws!
Darren Angel
If it means me having to spend Christmas on my own this year, so be it. I’d rather be safe than sorry.
Steven Oliver
Christmas is months away no one can say what the situation will be by then we will just have to be sensible and follow the advice.
Sarah Clark
It will take at least two months of lockdown to bring transmission rates back down to a level where you can have your family over for Christmas without running the risk of killing your granny. Every day that it doesn’t happen extends the duration of the lockdown that will be needed.
Christmas is basically cancelled. Accept it now to avoid disappointment.
Heather Rampage
There won’t be enough police on duty to stop people having their family round.
Graham Clee
Christmas has always been a lockdown – forced to spend time with the family in most cases or self-isolate with nothing open and rubbish TV. Hopefully the only difference will be the absence of that hideous Christmas market .
