‘ The most amazing experience’ - Ayrshire couple turn wedding into three- day tour

Hundreds of Scots couples have decided to reschedule their 2020 wedding day.

But one happy Ayrshire couple decided to tie the knot on Wednesday and turn it into a three- day celebration by soaking up some of Scotland’s best scenery.

Despite the current cap of 20 guests, Magdalena and Iain Gordon decided two weeks ago to honeymoon in Pitlochry last night before today visiting some local sites, including Soldier’s Leap at Killiecrankie, then driving somewhere new – potentially Glencoe – on Friday, all while donning their wedding dress and kilt.

Magdalena, 41, who works as a care assistant, said: “We are trying to make the most of it for us. If people love each other then Covid should not be able to stop you getting married.

“You don’t have to have a big, fancy do and you can celebrate happiness with the world and people you don’t even know, but you have to be safe and keep to social distancing.

“We did it safely and some people have even given us presents by taking pictures and sending them to us.”

Speaking to The Scotsman on Thursday from Pitlochry, the couple said they have been “amazed” by the warm reception from locals.

Magdalena said her wedding dress got a little wet and muddy at the bottom on Thursday - but she’s managed to dry it out in time for tomorrow’s drive to see some more scenic sites and meet more people, while sticking to social distancing guide-lines of course. The couple, who live in Kilwinning, were married at a registry office in Irvine on Wednesday before holding a small reception with close family with teas and coffees. Magdalena, who is originally from Poland, said a lot of her family could not be at the wedding but her mumand dad watched it on video. Iain, 36, a school janitor, said: “For us, it’s been the most amazing experience we have ever had because the community of Scotland is full of amazing people.” The couple said they are planning a "big party” once the Covid restrictions are eventually lifted. They have known each other for about eight years and met in a school where they worked together.
