#COVID19

Notes from a September meeting of the government's Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies show Boris Johnson was advised to take stricter lockdown measures to curb a second wave of Covid-19. However, much of the advice was rejected.

@Laurenc4410 wrote: “So @Borisjohnson & co pontificate for three weeks and basically don't do anything that is going to change things.”

@Danpatterson replied: “Johnson is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. Half the people on Twitter are criticising the PM for being too severe with the lockdown and the other half are saying he is too lax.”

@longold1 tweeted: “As first-hand sufferer and clear as day, problem lies with allowing university students back. Call them home, let them isolate and stay there. Rates will drop immediately. Our youngster has infected no fewer than 15 others after coming back from Nottingham uni asymptotic.”

@jonie1313 said: “Call your party out on this utter failure to protect the people in this country.”

@Frawden0 replied: “People can protect themselves. Nobody is forcing anybody into pubs, gyms or hairdressers and everyone can make autonomous decisions to put themselves into lockdown.” @bendypitts wrote: “SAGE have a very narrow scope.. suppress the virus as much as possible at all costs. Quite right the government take other factors into account. We can’t do this forever.”

#TRUMPRALLY

After his brush with Covid, Donald Trump held an election rally in Florida.

@philgrahambiz wrote: “So sad that many people in the audience not wearing masks or social distancing and some will get Covid and potentially die. These are all super spreader events. Horrible judgment to have these events.”

@michaelfgioia wrote: “I question whether Trump even had covid in the first place. I think it was all a political ploy to gain sympathy from his base.”

@gebsumasumas tweeted: “Same here. There’s no way an obese man of his age got over it that fast.”

@juepandme wrote: “Ask why his doctor's travelling with him and what's in the IV the Band-aid on his hand indicates he's still getting.”

@amy548 wrote: “I’m a bad person. I’m hoping for a relapse. Anything to make him shut up”
