Macintyre forced out of event due to injury

Bob Macintyre was yesterday forced to withdraw from the Scottish Championsh­ip at Fairmont St Andrews due to a niggling injury.

The disappoint­ing early exit from the new event for the 24- year- old from Oban was announced by his management company, Bounce Sport.

"U n f o r t u n a t e l y , @ rob e r t 1 l e f t y ha s had t o withdraw f rom # AXAScottis­hchamps due to a n i g g l e a r o u n d h i s h i p / b a c k w h i c h h a s b e e n causing discomfort these last couple of weeks," said a post on Twitter. "Under current Covid- 19 restrict i o n s , E u r o p e a n To u r physios are only able to give each player 1 5 minutes per day at present. That means he has had to withdraw to receive more i ntense treatment to enable a return to full fitness and be ready to play in Cyprus the week after next."

Macintyre had opened with a six- over- par 78 i n the company of Lee Westwood and Aaron Rai after getting off to a poor start a nd not havi ng a s i ngl e birdie on his card.

The young Scot has had his f air share of f rustration since being crowned European Tour Rookie of the Year in Dubai last November. He had to delay the start of his 2020 campa i g n due t o a ni g g l i ng wri s t i nj ur y a nd has n't quite managed to fire on all cylinders yet this year. That said, he made the cut in both the US PGA Championsh­ip and US Open in hi s f i r s t t wo major s o n American soil.

Ma c I n t y r e , wh o r e - cently made a change on his bag with Mikey Thomson taking over from Greg Milne, i s heading to Cyprus for a European Tour double- header. The Cyp r u s Ope n a n d C y p r u s Showdown are both being played at Aphrodite Hills.
