Bull sale prices bounce back

While both the at mosp here and trade might have been subdued at the Stirling bulls sales, which finished a long weekend of sales yesterday, a firm commercial trades awprices bounce back from last October’s slump.

In the Aberdeen Angus lines, the breed averaged £5,051, up £455 on October 2019’s £4596, with a top price of 10,000 gns achieved by the of G Gray, selling to AM&C Ewen, Meikle Toux, Cornhill, Banff. The Weeton Dispersal sale also saw a cow with calf at foot make 11,000gns.

Meanwhile the Charolais average rose by £892 to £6627, with a top price of 20,000 gns being made in the ring. The sale topper came from the Gretnahous­e herd of AG Houston selling to Goldie’s herd at South Bowerhouse­s, Dumfries.

Shorthorns also made a recovery in trade, with the sale average totalling £4140, up £701 on last year’s £3439, with a top bull price 6,200 gns. This price was bested in the heifer lines with 15,000 gns setting a new breed record for young females for John Elliot of Kelso. The Knockenjig reduction sale, also saw heifers sell to 11,000 gns and both cows and stock bulls hit the 10,000 gns mark.

In the Limousin lines, the sale hit 9,500 gns for Archie Macgregor of Allanfauld’s Homebyres Potter which was bred by J Logan, Homebyres, Kelso, the breed average being £4652, up £422.

At the Simmental sale, WS Stronach, Berryleys Farm, Grange, Keith, made the top price of the day with his Islavale herd fielding two bulls at 14,000gns each, averaging at £5589, up £411 on the year.
