Two uncapped players named in squad for France match

- By GRAHAM BEAN

Scotland have named two uncapped players in their squad to play France in Saturday’ s rescheduled Women’ s Six Nations match at S cotstoun.

The game is one of three fixtures from the 2020 tournament involving the S cots which were postponed due to coronavirus. Scotland will be led by new interim head coach Bryan Easson after Phillip Doyle had to stand down in August as he was shielding on medical grounds.

E as son’ s 25- player squad has a largely familiar look to it, and he is able to welcome back Megan Kennedy and Abi Evans from injury. The new faces are Edinburgh University sc rum-half Rachel Law and Stirling County centre Rachel Shankland. “Selection has been tough, but it’s a credit to the players who have all worked incredibly hard over the past few weeks,” Easson said. “The last time we played was back in February against England, so this fixture is important for us to see where we currently are as a squad. The players have been training with real purpose at our recent weekend camps and are all ready to push them - selves against France.

“We are all working towards the collective goal of World Cup qualification and these rescheduled Six Nations fixtures provide the perfect opportunity to test ourselves against some tough op ponents.”

Scotland opened their Six Nations campaign with an agonising 18-14 loss to Ireland at Donnybrook, before going down 53-0 to England at Murrayfield. The match against France will be shown live on BBC Alba (kick off 2.20pm).
