The US government has filed charges against Google, accusing the company of abusing its dominance to preserve a monopoly over internet searches and online advertising. The lawsuit marks the biggest challenge brought by US regulators against a major tech company in years.

@datlogantv said: “It’s not a monopolistic practice if your product is so good that everyone uses it by choice. How is there even a suit here? Google has completely replaced the word search. Even if you use Bing you probably still say I’m gonna Google it. This is stupid.”

@Stompymcgee commented: “People use it by choice, not understanding that Google records everything you do and talks to different apps and programs to keep tabs on you and sell you stuff. Google is useful as a search engine, but it has forced its self into every nook and cranny of your phone.”

@Simonakaseabass warned: “Shhh, if you Google "Google" the internet will explode.”

@Samuelyeagley posted: “That’s why I use more than one search engine. Bing and Yahoo are on my top list.”

@Weaselwords said: “Big

Tech needs to be broken up. There is no libertarian or FREEMARKET argument for not sanctioning them and breaking them up. This can never be allowed to happen again.” @Windsof47054751 added. “Finally the US government is doing something about the Silicon Valley mafia. Let’s hope it’s not too little too late. Next up Amazon.”

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says she will not "offload" decisions about local Covid alert levels on to councils

@ALEXMOONEY remarked: “Headline should read: I will not relinquish power to the people this is my country , the sooner the voters get the message the better.”

@Russelldutton said: “Perish the thought a council with virtually zero Covid – and there are many like that in Scotland –would want to disagree with her national lockdown policy.”

@jessiejames11 posted: “She has not got a large enough population to offload anything. Scotland only has 4.7 million which is the population of large cities and regions in England. With over 60 million in England Boris has a slightly bigger job!”

@Karensquires18 added: “So why have councils?
