Rashford propels United to victory at PSG as Chelsea are held by Sevilla

- By PA SPORT STAFF

Marcus Rash ford fired Manchester United to another memorable victory at Paris St Germain as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men started their Champions League campaign with a bang.

After a season away from European football's top table the Red Devils returned to action at the Parc des Princes, where only 19 months ago they secured one of their greatest ever comebacks in this competition.

Rashford fired home the late winner that night and he was the hero again as he sealed a last-gasp United triumph in the French capital, where last season's Champions League finalists PSG were deservedly overcome 2-1 in the Group H opener.

Bruno Fernandes had given the visitors, who were without captain Harry Maguire and midfielder Paul Pogba, the lead with a retaken first-half penalty, but a misfiring PSG seemed to be on course for a share of the spoils after Anthony Martial's own goal.

However, R ashford would once again provide the late drama and give Solskjaer’ s side a fine start to their European season.

Manchester City lo a nee Angelino scored both goals as RB Leipzig b eat Istanbul Basaksehir 2- 0 in the other game in Group H.

Juventus opened their Group G campaign with a 2-0 win at Dynamo Kiev.

Juve were without Cristiano Ronaldo following his positive Covid-19 test but Alvaro Morata scored two secondhalf goals, turning home the opener soon after the restart before securing the points with a header.

Chelsea opened their Champions League campaign by grinding to a galling goalless draw with Spanish opponents Sevilla at Stamford Bridge.

KurtZou ma had the best chance of a frustrating west London night, the France defender's free header losing all sting through a deflection.

Frank Lampard's side ended the night with all six of their £200 million summer signings on the pitch for the first time.

But despite flashes of promise the Blues boss is yet to find the best fit for his expensively assembled jigsaw.
