Ram lamb prices stay on a high

Blackface tup prices continued on a high yesterday when the ram lambs took to the ring on the second day of Lawrie and Symington’s Lanark breed sale, with the 149 sold averaging £ 5713, up £ 639 on the year.

Top price of the day of £80,000 went to a ram lamb from Archie Macgregor’s Allanfauld flock which sold to Nunn erie and Elm sc le ugh. But the top priced animal was only one of a string of high achievers from the farm which also saw sales of £ 38,000 to Whelphill and Elm sc le ugh ,£26,000 to Craigdarro­ch and Mi thc hell slacks and £20,000 to Glen Gatehouse.

The winning hand also rounded off a week which had seen the family notch up the top price of 9,500 gns in the Limousin lines at the Stirling bull sales at the start of the week.

Second top price at Friday’s sale saw a Hareston tup lamb sell for £ 70,000 to Auldhouseb­urn and Glenrath.

Dyke flock sold to a top of £ 42,000 – this one going to Craigdarro­ch, Mitchellhi­ll and Kirkland.

On the previous day, shear ling stopped at £60,000 with Ring 1 averaging £3156(+£110.71 for 11 fewer sold). While ring 2 averaged £ 482.97 (+£53.48 for 86 fewer sold).

The top price shearling, which was by a£160k Elmscleugh, came from Glenrath and sold to Nunnerie & Williamhop­e.

Other leading shearling prices included £ 48,000 from Blackhouse to Glenrath & Hartside.
