Kilmarnock facing SPFL action over alleged Covid- 19 breach
Kilmarnock are facingpossible SPFL disciplinary action amid claims the club breached Covid- 19 regulations.
The Rugby Park club are alleged to have flouted protocols prior to their Scottish Premiership match against Motherwell on Friday October 2, which was postponed as a result of the Ayrshire outfit not being able to field a team.
Six individuals returned positive Covid- 19 tests.
A statement from Kilmarnock ahead of the game read: “Six players in total have now tested positive and following discussions with NHS Ayrshire & Arran Public Health, the Scottish Government, East Ayrshire Council and the footballing authorities, our entire f i rst- t eam squad has been advised to self- isolate until
October 14. The SPFL Board met this afternoon and agreed to our request to postpone the fixture and an investigation will now be carried out by the league around circumstances leading to the postponement.”
The SPFL has confirmed that a hearing will take place in the near future.
A s p o ke s p e r s o n f o r t h e league said: “The SPFL has today announced that disciplinary proceedings have been commenced against Kilmarnock FC. It is alleged Kilmarnock FC breached the SPFL’S Covid- 19 Regulations during the lead- up to their postponed League Match v Motherwell FC on Friday, 2 October.
“A h e a r i n g wi l l b e h e l d before a Sub- Committee of the Board of the SPFL, chaired by an independent legally- qualified chair. The date will be announced in due course.”
Kilmarnock have told The Scotsman they will defend their position fully.
