Masks in schools

-

Pupils and their teachers will now be forced to wear face masks in the classroom in areas facing tougher Covid- 19 lockdown measures, the Scottish government has announced. The new rules mean pupils in S4 to S6 and their teachers must wear face coverings at all times from Monday.

Finally a partial acknowledgement of where the virus is spreading. Next should be universities then maybe once the figures begin to drop we can let hardpressed businesses get back to work with all appropriate safeguards in place.

Andrew Ewington Two questions. 1. Where is the evidence to justify this? 2. what is the risk assessment being taken that it’s wise for a young person to wear a mask all day inside a facility? With young people already having their lives turned upside down is this the right thing to do, considernig that in level 3 areas they can all play and practise outside in team sports and go out of the school at break to get lunch. Again is it justified based on actual data not guess work and what risk assessment is taken on the time they are wearing these masks?

Fergus Storrier This s allowed all over east Asia and they are winning against this thing, compared to UK at least. Why not learn lessons from what is working elsewhere in the world? Should be compulsory everywhere.

James Thomas Kilpatrick This will become a normal practice until the pandemic gets more controlled.

Michael Mcbride Worth a try if it keeps them in learning longer and continuing their social and mental development.

Diane Davidson I suppose it’s better than nothing. Really I think blended learning should be put in place. Lots of people are changing their children from public education to home learning as they feel no- one listening.

Chelsea Rogan If my son could just stop having to isolate every other week just because he’s a close contact at school that would be great.

C Marie Smart I do hope nobody ever has to face any real and proper hardship – because the reaction to only being asked to wear a flimsy mask, not mix for a while and don’t have a pint for a bit is utterly ridiculous.
