Cash grab?

-

Scotland may adopt a national lockdown approach to take advantage of the Uk-wide furlough scheme that has been extended until early December, Nicola Sturgeon has said.

Independence is the only way forward for Scotland, this is nonsense, with powers here and there causing more turbulence in all directions even down to what we get and how it gets paid back.

Jacqui Pollock Indy tomorrow would take several years to complete, wouldn’t help us a jot at the moment.

Bill Beveridge

Several years! At least 25 years by most accounts.

Mike Hibberd

She wants to do her own thing to get people to vote for independence. So she watches what England does then tries to do it another way or in her mind better. I'm not saying Boris has led this thing well, but when Scotland gets independence there won't be the financial support from the UK Governement, and Scotland will not be able to fund itself… she will destroy Scotland. We need less of these self important power driven politicians and leaders and more of a coalition to work together against the ongoing problems.

Susan Ross

I hope the Scottish Government base their decisions about managing the pandemic on more than just the amount of money the UK government is going to give them!

Dot Thomson She should at least try the five tier system which is meant to start today. Hopeful of more cash available only if she gives her plan the bullet and follows England. Our figures are currently much better than England so it’s only money that is swaying her.

Alex Porteous

That's what she is doing. What the SG need to know is whether the furlough option is going to be available, when or if we need it.

Brian Forrest So it's not about a objective science-led approach – it's about cash?

Howard Merritt I would like to know where she thinks government is getting the flaming money, guess she will be retired on full pension when we all have to pay higher taxes to put it back!

Hazel Maclaren The UK government are borrowing the money, a luxury that Scot Gov does not have.

Stephen Reid

Who are you going to borrow it from, at what interest rate and who is going to guarantee the debt? The long-awaited Scottish central bank is just a dream in Sturgeon's befuddled brain.

John Pendlebury

I thought the new five-tier system was the way forward. It’s only starting today after much government promotion of its merits and now Sturgeon’s looking at something else only because she thinks there might be some extra cash available. Wish they could devise a plan and stick to it instead of all the flip flopping.

Ian Munro You can still keep business open and receive furlough for employees! The struggling businesses can use the furlough scheme to retain staff and keep the business open? Or am I missing something?

Graham Goodbrand Wish people would follow the rules and then we might not be back in this mess.
