whim of Westminister as to when a generation is, and the timescale to their liking.
Andrew Pete Be a neverending issue this, either way it seems we’ll have a referendum every 6-8 years. I can’t imagine those advocating it now will have any argument against another being held in a few years asking if we want to rejoin the United Kingdom if they win. Be a bit hypocritical to refuse it, it is democracy after all. Imagine the shame of refusing it after demanding the same right so strongly.

The circumstances have changed significantly. The generation thing is now a total red herring. Bring it on!

An Independent Scotland would be even more broke if it went Independent now but you ‘Yessers’ will have Independence at any cost. If you loved Scotland you would wait unt il it is financially strong
Karina Bowlby I love the way Tories and other "unionists" jump on the phrase "Once in a generation opportunity" yet ignore Boris Johnson's quote "I'd rather die in a ditch" [than agree to Brexit]. Is Johnson dead in a ditch? No! Both statements are no more than rhetoric, used to drive home the gravity of a situation. There's nothing legally binding about either statement.
Angelo Greig Has he actually considered planning a case for the Union and putting it to the Scottish people in a referendum, and winning us all over? Thought not. The supporters of the Union have given up arguing its supposed benefits and seem resolved to holding on to the Union by denying the democratic wishes of the people rather than creating a Union which would garner public support.
