UK is ‘better than France’ over vaccine

G a v i n W i l l i a m s o n h a s claimed the UK is “much better than France, Belgium and the US” after the vaccine was approved.

The UK Education S ecre - tar y risked sparking a dip - l o mat i c s p a t a f t e r h a i l i n g British medicine regulators as "much better" than those abroad.

Appearing on LB C radio, the Tor y MP was speaking after Healthcare pro ducts Regulatory Agency became the first body on the planet to give the go-ahead for a Covid-19 vaccine.

He said: “We have obviously got the best medical regulators, much b etter than the French have, much better than the B elgians have, much better than the Americans have.

"That does not surprise me at all because we are a much b etter countr y than ever y single one of them.”

by both the Health Secretary Matt Hancock and the Leader of the House Jacob ReesMogg.

It comes after the UK Business S ecretar y Alok Sharma infuriated the German a m b a s s a d o r i n L o n d o n A n d r e a s M i c h a e l i s a f t e r claiming the breakthrou­gh as a win for Britain.

He had t weeted: “The UK was the first country to sign a deal with Pfizer/biontech - now we will be the first to deploy their vaccine.

“In years to come, we will remember this moment as the day the UK led humani t y ’s c h a r g e a g a i n s t t h i s disease.”
