The UK Government should pay people to have children or give Scotland the power to do so, says SNP MP Kenny Macaskill.

It's not as simple as encouraging people to have more children. You need to have a country that encourages our children to stay and work here and a country that encourages more of the immigrants who arrive in the UK to make their home in Scotland. Perhaps not making Scotland the highest taxed part of the UK would be a start?

The brain and economic drain on Scotland has been going on for centuries..... until we can equal opportunities to students and apprentices, the lure of England and Australia etc will always seek them out…

You have children because you want to love and nurture them. You should not decide to have children by how much money you will get from the government to help with the cost of rearing them. Children are not cash cows.

A better idea might be lowering the cost of forming a family through cheaper housing and higher wages. That implies strict restrictions on migration, which has been a disaster for working class wages. Also ty to pivot away from the disastrous policy of encouraging massive numbers of not-particularlyacademic young people to waste the most fertile years of their lives doing pointless and expensive university degrees that keep them institutionalised and infantalised into their 20's. Punitive taxation of the childless – if you're not contributing to the next generation, you should pay the additional costs your bad choices are imposing on society.

Since when has having babies and children become a business commodity.

Jackie King

How about you pay for your own children if your having them and not use my taxes for this
