‘Early present’ as Amazon and Sky TV to host each other’s apps

Amazon and Sky have announced a new video partnershi­p that will see the tech firm’ s Prime Video service launch on Sky while Sky's Now TV will come to Amazon's Fire TV devices.

The two companies said the deal means customers in the UK and Ireland will be able to watch content from across both platforms in one place for the first time over Christmas.

Amazon and Sky said it also meant users in the UK would be able to watch every live Premi er League football game on Sky Sports, BTS port and Prime Video without switching devices for the first time.

The deal sees the Prime Video app become available on Sky Q devices, where users will be able to sign into their existing Prime Video account, while the Now TV app - which gives users access to programmin­g from Sky Atlantic and Sky Cinema, as well as live sport through Sky Sports - via the Fire TV range of devices.

Emma Gilmar tin, head of Fire TV in Europe, said: "It just got even easier for customers to enjoy the best entertainm­ent on Fire TV devices. With the launch of Now TV on our Fire TV Devices, we're excited to bring the most talked-about and award-winning TV series, films and sport all in the easy and intuitive Fire TV experience."

Stephen van Rooyen, chief executive of Sky in the UK and Europe, said the move was an" early Christmas present ".“Anyone who needs to get stuck into something new after The Undoing on Sky Atlantic will now be able to flip right over to The Boys on Prime Video, without ever leaving Sky Q.”
